A criminal case is being prepared against Chubais who fled Russia after objecting to the war

In March, Anatoly Chubais, a close adviser to Putin, resigned from the government and left Russia over his objection to Putin’s assault on Ukraine. His position was not influential but still created headlines across the globe. Chubais, during the Yeltsin era, was involved in mass corrupt “privatization” schemes and remained close to Putin until March. He also recommended Putin for his first Kremlin position as deputy chief of the presidential staff in 1997.

Now the former CEO of Rusnano will be embroiled in a criminal case that is being prepared. Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov received a request to check the activities of Rusnano JSC during the years 2010-2020 when the company was headed by Chubais.

According to RBC, the letter was signed by Sergei Kulikov, who replaced Chubais in December 2020, and was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Rusnano management company.

Kulikov writes that the damage from Chubais' activities could amount to about 28 billion rubles. Over the 10 years of his reign, Rusnano accumulated 290 billion rubles of debt and continued to dig into the debt hole, even after 2016, when it already had “signs of insolvency.”

Kulikov is accusing Chubais of accounting fraud and claims that the financial documents he signed are “incorrect” and “formally” reduced the number of obligations, which allowed Rusnano to continue to collect expensive loans (for 128 billion rubles) and pay interest, although its inability to repay the debt by that time was "obvious.”

Ex-Deputy PM Arkady Dvorkovich, loyal to Medvedev, also denounced the war and reportedly fled Russia. Watch for a criminal case to be opened against him and anyone else in Putin’s circle who speaks out against Russia’s war crimes. The Kremlin is very aware and participated in the corruption of Chubais, and others for decades, but now conveniently will find crimes as punishment and prevent others from speaking against Russia’s assault.
