DISINFO ALERT: "Elena Zelenskaya was spotted at the St. Moritz ski resort in Switzerland — Mosiychuk"
Another FAKE Story. NO Olena Zelenska did not travel to St. Moritz
Disinfo Alert
Claim: First Lady Olena Zelenska is allegedly vacationing at the luxury St. Moritz ski resort in Switzerland, as shown in a video shared online, flying there on the Moldovan Presidential plane.
Source: Former Ukrainian MP Igor Mosiychuk, who had been suspected of spreading pro-Russian disinformation for many years, posted the claim along with a video on his Telegram channel.
Dissemination Route: Originated from Mosiychuk's Telegram account. Amplified by pro-Russian and anti-Ukraine social media accounts, spreading the narrative to discredit Ukraine’s leadership.
Note: This particular disinformation narrative was spread in several languages including English, Turkish, Romanian, German, French, Italian, etc. A few examples below…
Reality: The video shared by the former MP shows unidentified individuals boarding a motorcade in St. Moritz. No clear evidence or identifiable features link these individuals to Olena Zelenska or her entourage. Even Mosiychuk, the source of the claim, admitted it is based purely on assumptions without verification.
Goal: To, yet again, undermine public trust in Ukraine’s leadership by portraying them as indulging in luxury during wartime, and attempt to erode both domestic and international support.
Also, to discredit Moldova’s President Sandu by spreading disinformation that her plane was used for this nonexistent event.
Counter:
Rely on Credible Sources: Verify stories before sharing.
Demand Verifiable Evidence: Ask for concrete proof, such as official records or identifiable individuals, before considering such allegations.
Highlight the Lack of Credibility: Emphasize the source’s admission that the claim is speculative and unsupported by facts.
Disinformation seeks to erode confidence and solidarity. Stay informed and share responsibly.
If you have tips or disinfo you’d like me to investigate, feel free to share!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for these posts! It’s interesting how the disinformation standard is not to prove that Zelenska went to St. Moritz, but simply to say that she could have, because russian leaders would have (and do) and the core assumption is that Ukrainian leaders are certainly no better or more moral.
To highlight the enormous gap between life-loving Ukrainian culture and russian death culture and to show that the two peoples are absolutely not the same, what would you think of adding an example of a russian leader who did the thing of which Zelenska is accused, plus a link to the work that Zelenska is doing for citizens within Ukraine?
Just wondering how the disinformation can be exposed and have its goal (distraction from what matters) thwarted. 😊
