NARRATIVE ALERT: MAGA Narratives and Russian Statements Fuel Inauguration Safety Concerns for Trump

Narrative Alert:

Over the past several days, MAGA accounts have been warning that something may happen to Donald Trump during his inauguration, with some urging him to hold the ceremony at Mar-a-Lago instead.

These warnings gained traction after Nikolai Patrushev, former FSB head and Secretary of Russia's Security Council, stated on January 14th: “It is clear that Trump's position is not shared by all US elites... Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure the safety of Trump and his entourage before assuming the office of the head of state, as well as during his presidency.”

Analysis: Russia may be spreading and amplifying fears about Trump’s safety to deepen divisions between political classes in the U.S., while MAGA could be laying the groundwork for Trump to target key agencies by labeling them as part of the "deep state," a baseless lie.
