Russia continues to lay the groundwork for its potential chemical weapons attack in Ukraine
Again two breaking news headlines and lies across all Russian state news media outlets are baseless dangerous claims by Russia’s Defense Ministry warning that Ukraine is preparing a chemical attack on Ukrainian soil. State Russian media RIA Novosti reports, “Ukrainian Nazis are preparing provocations with chemical substances, the Defense Ministry said.” Another headline reads, “Surrendered SBU officer announced the preparation of terrorist attacks in Lviv.”
Over the past several weeks, Russia has been preparing its domestic audience for a chemical attack in Ukraine. Every few days, the Defense Ministry comes out with blatant lies of Ukraine preparing an attack. Still, the actual danger lies with Russia using chemical weapons in Ukraine while blaming the Ukrainian military, intelligence services, ‘nationalists,’ and the West. We have seen this strategy play out in Syria when Russia’s defense ministry would warn of an impending chemical attack, and one would follow by Putin and Assad forces.
The increase of warnings by Russia’s defense ministry and sources, with more details being provided in recent days, is extremely dangerous and not the Kremlin’s usual propaganda.
At a briefing, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the Russian National Defense Control Center, lied about Ukrainian “nazis” preparing chemical attacks but provided details of where Russia might conduct these attacks.
"In Sumy, at the Sumykhimprom chemical plant, nationalists mined storage facilities with ammonia and chlorine in order to mass poison the inhabitants of the Sumy region if units of the Russian Armed Forces entered the city," Mizintsev said. He also discussed a potential chemical attack in the village of Kotlyarovo, located in the Mykolaiv region. “For this, containers with toxic chemicals have already been delivered to the building of the local elementary school, which are planned to be blown up when units of Russian troops approach,” the general added.
"All this is being done with the direct support of the leadership of the United States and a number of countries of the European Union, which consider Ukraine as an instrument of anti-Russian policy," the general said.
Another alarming headline focused on Lviv, which for now has been safer from Russia’s war crimes and brutal assault.
Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said, “Ukrainian Nazis from the Azov Battalion are planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Lviv against diplomats from the United States and other Western countries in order to present it as a targeted attack by the Russian military.” Konashenkov claimed that this evidence was obtained by a Ukrainian (SBU) intelligence agent who voluntarily surrendered to the Russian Armed Forces, in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
As Russian forces get crushed in Ukraine and fail to achieve any gains, they turn to more dangerous tactics. Russia is openly committing war crimes by deliberately targeting women, children, the elderly, and residential homes. The more Putin feels pressured, the more dangerous this war becomes as Russia prepares to use chemical weapons against innocent civilians.
