S3 E2: Russia’s war machine: How Russia evades sanctions with Denys Hutyk
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it has faced unprecedented sanctions. Yet Russia has been able to obtain Western military components and tech at pre-invasion levels.
How is this possible? Which countries are assisting Russia in obtaining tech and parts, and what are the routes for this trade? More importantly, what can we do about it?
These are the questions Olga and Monique tackle with Denys Hutyk in this week’s episode of Kremlin File.
Denys Hytuk is the director of the Economic Security Council of Ukraine, which is responsible for identifying and countering internal and external threats to economic security in Ukraine.
More about the Economic Security Council of Ukraine
ESCU focuses on protecting the economy of Ukraine from subversive activities of the Russian Federation, monitoring the correct implementation of sanctions imposed on Russian entities and foreign companies that cooperate with them, as well as imposing new restrictions on companies that harm or threaten the economic security of Ukraine.
Together with Ukrainian and foreign state institutions, ESCU searches for assets belonging to beneficiaries from the Russian Federation or countries that support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, makes a database of such assets, and helps prepare them for seizure.
Our personal note:
This episode is especially important to us. The issues at hand concern not only Ukraine but have implications for the entire global corporate infrastructure and operations.
Selling tech and parts to maintain and support Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine means those corporations are not neutral. They are acting as collaborators in Russia’s genocide of the Ukrainian people and state.
Thank you for listening and standing with us,
