The Russian military surrounded the city, cutting off residents from essential critical services with residents living in brutally cold weather with no heat, food, medicine, and electricity. They have been subjected to endless bombing lasting all hours of day and night and cut off from the outside world. Russia created a humanitarian catastrophe in besieged Mariupol, a city with over 300,000 residents, where Russian forces damaged or destroyed 80% of homes.

Russian forces have kidnaped activists and volunteers, a drama theatre used as a shelter for hundreds of women and children was bombed and destroyed. A maternity and children’s hospital was left unrecognizable after a bombing with pregnant women inside. The latest horror came yesterday with a report of residents being forcibly deported into 'filtration camps' inside Russia.

After weeks of mass war crimes, the Russian Defence Ministry decided to issue a deadline for the surrender of Mariupol, citing the “terrible humanitarian crisis” that was unfolding. The humanitarian catastrophe that Russia has created across Ukraine after Putin ordered a brutal assault forcing over 3 million Ukrainians to flee. Russian forces are creating the humanitarian catastrophe by strategically making women, children, the elderly, and civilian homes the primary targets. We have all seen the devastating images of children pulled out of the rubble, residents looking shell-shocked after their homes bombed, reports of Russian troops raping women, and innocent families separated from Russia’s ruthless war.

Russia created the humanitarian catastrophe yet has given Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy until 5:00 am Moscow time to surrender Mariupol and lay down arms. The head of the National Center for Defense Control, war criminal Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, held a gaslighting press conference calling on Kyiv to “cancel the instructions to the “militants” who have settled Mariupol to become "martyrs of Mariupol. "We call on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, territorial defense battalions, foreign mercenaries to stop hostilities, lay down their arms, and enter the territories controlled by Kyiv along the humanitarian corridors agreed with the Ukrainian side," Mizintsev said.

Russia is conducting a brutal illegal war where they failed to achieve their strategic military objectives of taking key Ukrainian cities in days and now have resorted to issuing demands. At a time when several Russian generals have been killed, and Russian forces have taken heavy losses. Their tactics have shifted to the mass killing of innocents, decimating cities, and issuing insane ultimatums. As we enter the fourth week of the war, Russia’s brutal war crimes increase as desperation sets in. Russia’s primary targets are innocent Ukrainians who want to live on their sovereign territory peacefully.
